Ashera is awakened early, leading Mist and Micaiah to free Yune. The item returns in Radiant Dawn, its chaotic energy increasing as the fighting gets worse. The Medallion is dangerous to touch, as it amplifies a person's worst qualities and drives anyone in possession of it insane so long as they have it, though Mist, Ike's sister, and her mother are among those who are unaffected. Mist carries the item with her following her mother's death, though she does not learn its true nature until late in Path of Radiance. Ashera also agreed to a thousand year long slumber, though she could be awakened if the world was threatened, at which point she and Yune would discuss what to do. Yune and her counterpart, Ashera (Goddess of Order) were once joined as Ashunera, the creator goddess. Like some of the other Fire Emblems, the Medallion was used to seal away a powerful force, this time the Goddess of Chaos Yune. Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn's Fire Emblem is an artifact with chaotic energy. Related: Tomodachi Life Should Come to Nintendo Switch The Crest of House Velthomer

In the game, Chrom and his army must gather the gems to restore the shield in order to perform the Awakening Ceremony and, once again, defeat Grima. After being used to defeat the evil Grima about 1000 years earlier, four of the jewels were removed from the shield. In Awakening, which takes place in the Halidom of Ylisse on the land that once was Archanea, the Fire Emblem and Falchion are, again, royal treasures. Using the Binding Shield and Falchion, Marth is able to seal the Earth Dragons once again.

He uses it again in Mystery of the Emblem after finding the missing orbs and restoring it to its true form. In Shadow Dragon, Marth uses the shield in his battle against Medeus. However, the shield is cursed either due to Adrah's theft or by a later royal known as Artemis. It was stolen by Adrah, a thief who went on to found the Kingdom of Archanea, turning the Fire Emblem into a royal treasure. This Fire Emblem was created by Naga, the leader of the Divine Dragons, who make it from one of her fangs in order to stop the Earth Dragons that threatened humanity. It is the counterpart to the divine sword, Falchion.
